Credit Tom Brenner/The New York Times To the Editor: Re “ Drug Plan Drops Populist Designs, Not the Rhetoric ” (front page, May 12): President Trump’s assertion that he would “bring soaring drug prices back down to earth” is worse than a placebo. It is instead a bitter and ineffectual pill, since the rhetoric and the reality don’t match. What he is prescribing has the following side effects: Pricing will not change materially, the president’s corporate backers will remain protected, and the president’s supporters will still bear the same onerous financial burdens for their medications and their health.
