Summary Earlier this year, I declared Starbucks ( SBUX ) a buy on stagnant US comps that were overshadowing a superb growth story in APAC. Shares dropped into the $40s after the company posted weak third quarter earnings, but they have rallied back after better-than-anticipated Q4 earnings driven by stronger-than-expected growth in comp-store sales in the Americas segment. After analyzing the quarter, as well as the various strategic moves that Starbucks has announced in the past few months, I am increasingly confident in the company’s strategy. I am increasing my fair value estimate to $70, and I would be a buyer on any material pullback below the $60 level. Q4 – Strong Ticket Growth, Especially in the Americas Starbucks caught many investors by surprise in Q4, as total global comps grew a solid 3% y/y, on top of a 2% comp in Q4’17.
