Advances in medical technologies are keeping more patients alive and giving them a better chance to overcome difficult diagnoses. To make those diagnoses, though, healthcare teams need the best information -- and that no longer comes from a two-dimensional image on a screen. A collaborative effort launched this week is working to ease the way for point-of-care medical providers to get hands-on with patient data -- literally. The Materialise Mimics inPrint Certification Program is bringing the first 3-D printing software cleared by the FDA for clinical operations together with validated hardware solutions. Medical labs utilizing this new pathway gain a streamlined approach to manufacturing patient-specific medical models validated for diagnostic use. Patient scan data can be imported into Mimics inPrint and converted into a 3-D printable model.
