It was a very British day in the United States. King Charles III spent his second day of his four-day state visit tamping down concerns over the increasingly rocky relationship between the United States and the United Kingdom. He delivered a rare, historic speech to a joint Congress where he reaffirmed the two nations were, in fact, united. Amid the King galavanting across Washington, DC, was a spectacle at the White House that started with an elaborate program welcoming King Charles III and Queen Camilla to the White House and ending with a formal dinner where the two leaders toasted each other. The state visit, the most consequential of Charles' reign, commemorates the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence and is the king's first U.S. trip since his 2023 coronation.
