Declining mall conditions prompted the decision, according to the technology company. While some shoppers acknowledge the mall's deterioration in recent years, many oppose Apple's departure. "I can't think of another apple store I'd go to. I like to go in there and ask about upgrades or even just look at apple watch bands or new products so its a little disappointing they're closing," one customer said. The closures extend beyond San Diego. Apple announced it will close locations in Trumbull, Connecticut and Towson, Maryland alongside the Escondido store. The company evaluates its retail locations to determine whether they meet customer needs and performance standards.
