Apple announced Monday that CEO Tim Cook will step down from the role in September and transition to executive chairman of the board. John Ternus, Apple's senior vice president of hardware engineering, will succeed him as chief executive on September 1. The move marks the end of Cook's 15-year tenure leading Apple, the world's most valuable company, reported Bloomberg. Cook joined the company in 1998 and became CEO in 2011 following the death of co-founder Steve Jobs. Under his leadership, per Bloomberg, Apple's market value grew from roughly $350 billion to more than $3 trillion, while expanding its services business and launching products including the Apple Watch, AirPods, and multiple generations of iPhones, iPads, and Macs.
