Expedia, the travel company founded in 1996, said in a WARN notice that 162 employees will be laid off starting April 1, 2026. An Expedia Group spokesperson told KING 5 the decision was made to “remain disciplined about assessing the skills we need for the future.” The company is also adding new roles amid the job cuts. “We are also simplifying our structure and reducing organizational layers to move faster and with more accountability,” the spokesperson said. “These are not easy decisions, and we are grateful for the contributions of our colleagues who are impacted.” The announcement comes as Washington's largest employer, Amazon, said Wednesday it will lay off 16,000 corporate workers . It is unclear how many of those jobs are in western Washington. Earlier this week, Amazon also announced the closure of all Amazon Go and Amazon Fresh stores , affecting 401 workers in the region.
