Lam Research stock gains after upgrade Lam Research Corp. shares LRCX, +4.43% are up 4.5% in premarket trading Friday after Mizuho analyst Vijay Rakesh upgraded the stock to buy from neutral, writing that the company looks "well positioned" for a rebound in the second half of 2020 and in 2021 based on his expectations for growth in NAND, DRAM, and etch-equipment spending. He argued that Lam's shares look attractive as they currently trade for about 9 times forward price/earnings estimates, compared with a long-term average of about 12.4 times. "While 1H20 [wafer-fab equipment (WFE)] spending will likely be impacted by COVID-19, we see a better 2H20 driven by the need to add capacity to tight memory supply, and foundry/logic WFE spending given strong seasonal 5G handset demand, a strong data center/server outlook and 7-nanometer/5-nanometer ramps," he wrote. Lam shares have lost 40% over the past month, as the S&P 500 SPX, -0.18% has declined 29%. [Read more]
