On Wednesday, Microsoft MSFT Amazon AMZN Meta Platforms META ), and Alphabet GOOG GOOGL ) each reported quarterly results. Ahead of these results, we argued that the most important number to emerge from the reports would be estimated capital expenditures from the big four hyperscalers. Going into the quarter, the high end of estimates put the group's AI spending at around $670 billion this year. As of Wednesday night's reports, that number is closer to $725 billion. Meta was the first to announce its plans for 2026, raising its capex forecast to $125 billion to $145 billion, up $10 billion at both ends. In its earnings release, Meta said this increased forecast is due to “expectations for higher component pricing this year and, to a lesser extent, additional data center costs to support future year capacity.” Meta stock fell about 6% following this report.
