However, if Musk walks away, SpaceX will pay $10 billion, making it one of the largest termination fees ever agreed. The startup crossed $2 billion in annualized revenue earlier this year and was valued at $29 billion in November. Musk, who also runs Tesla ( NASDAQ:TSLA ), has spent the past year rolling his disparate businesses into a single entity, merging xAI and social platform X into SpaceX in a deal that valued the combined group at $1.25 trillion. The Cursor deal is the latest in a dealmaking spree aimed at closing the gap with AI rivals OpenAI and Anthropic ahead of SpaceX's IPO, expected to value the group at $1.75 trillion, which would be the largest flotation of all time. xAI lost $6.4 billion in 2025, up from $1.56 billion in 2024, while Starlink posted operating profit of $4.42 billion last year, providing the financial cushion for Musk's AI ambitions.
