Krispy Kreme bets big on capital-light growth, expanded retail partnerships, and outsourced logistics [Yahoo! Finance]

Nearly five months after Krispy Kreme CEO Josh Charlesworth announced a turnaround strategy for the struggling doughnut chain, the company provided an update on its capital light pivot at the ICR conference on Jan. 12 in Orlando. So far, Krispy Kreme has been most aggressive on scaling back tangible assets internationally, including Brazil — which the company entered last year in partnership with convenience store chain AmPm — Japan, Korea, and even one day the U.S., where the company has not ruled out selective refranchising. “We're in talks with our well-established partner in the Western states — the WKS Restaurant Group — to reduce our ownership stake with them,” Charlesworth said on Monday. “We really want to support capital light growth in the future. … If there are any proceeds from that we use those to further pay down that we talked about refranchising.” As Krispy Kreme adopts this asset-light strategy to reduce debt, the company is simultaneously expanding retail
