FDA OKs AMAG Pharma's Makena subcutaneous auto-injector; shares up 16% premarketAMAG Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ:AMAG) is up16% premarket, albeit on only 100 shares, in response to the FDA'sapproval of theMakena(hydroxyprogesterone caproate injection) subcutaneous auto-injector, a ready-to-use drug-device combination to reduce the risk of preterm birth in pregnant women who have previously delivered a preterm baby.Makena was first approved in the U.S. in February 2011, administered via intramuscular injection.The auto-injector, branded asQuickShot, was developed by Antares Pharma (NASDAQ:ATRS). It is designed to deliver a rapid injection of a highly viscous substance, such as progesterone in oil, through a fine gauge nonvisible needle.
