Brown-Forman's stock gains after profit and sales rise above expectations Shares of Brown-Forman Corp. BF.B, +4.66% rose 0.8% in premarket trade Wednesday, after the alcoholic beverage company reported fiscal second-quarter profit and sales that beat expectations. Net income for the quarter to Oct. 31 rose to $239 million, or 62 cents a share, from $197 million, or 50 cents a share, in the same period a year ago. That beat the FactSet earnings-per-share consensus of 53 cents. Net sales grew 10% to $914 million, above the FactSet consensus of $871.5 million. Among the alcoholic beverage company's brands, sales of the Jack Daniel's family of brands rose 10%, of Woodford Reserve jumped 23% and of Herradura increased 15%. The company raised its fiscal 2018 EPS guidance range to $1.90 to $1.98 from $1.85 to $1.95. The stock has rallied 38% year to date through Tuesday, while the S&P 500 SPX, -0.04% has gained 17%.
