The Dow Jones industrial average traded 21 points higher, with Boeing as the biggest contributor of gains. The 30-stock index rose as much as 226 points and briefly traded 84 points lower. The S&P 500 held just above the flatline, with utilities and tech as the best-performing sectors. The broad index rose as much as 0.7 percent. The Nasdaq composite rose 0.4 percent after falling as much as 0.2 percent. It had risen as much as 0.9 percent. The major averages all closed sharply higher on Wednesday, climbing back further from the correction levels hit last week and notching a four-day winning streak.
