Summary Cameco’s unit cost of production is lower than the prevailing spot price and the long-term price of uranium due to its focus on tier 1 assets. Cameco will continue to enjoy a lower cost base since its key assets such as Cigar Lake and McArthur River carry very strong grades as compared to the industry. Cameco’s low costs and a strong reserve profile will allow the company to take advantage of the nuclear reactors that are coming online going forward. An increase in the reactor count is expected to push up annual uranium demand by 20%, which is great news for Cameco since it will lead to better pricing. The uranium market has been under duress this year as the spot price of the commodity has dropped in almost half since the beginning of 2016.
