Summary There has been talk in recent times that General Electric (NYSE: GE ) might have to cut the dividend to zero from $0.12 a share quarterly, and even raise new equity to repair its stretched balance sheet . Of course , after a 55% drop to $14.9 from a multiyear closing high of $32.88 in mid-2016, anything could happen now . B ut I reckon I could profit from bad news if a cash call, say up to $20bn, occurs and a zero- dividend policy ensues. In my previous GE coverage on 23 January , I flagged the possibility that its equity – then trading well over $16 a share – could be overvalued based on a number of reasons.
