It's at about $984 for Tesla (ticker: TSLA) shares, which implies gains of about 28% from recent levels. The last time the metric looked that good was in March 2020, when the market sold off as the pandemic hit the U.S. Tesla shares went from about $85 to $650 in the 12 months following that signal, soaring more than 660%. The S & P 500 rose almost 70% over the same span. The average analyst price target has only been above the stock price about 25% of the time over the past three years. That is because there are a lot of Tesla bears out there, matching the bulls in their enthusiasm. Price targets today range from a low of $67 from GLJ Research analyst Gordon Johnson to $1,620 from KGI Securities analyst Jennifer Liang.
