Summary AstraZeneca and its partner Merck received FDA approval for Lynparza to treat patients with BRCA-mutated ovarian cancer. The expanded label for Lynparza means it is the first PARP drug to be approved by the FDA as a first-line maintenance therapy in BRCA-mutated ovarian cancer patients. The FDA approval was based on substantial results in which Lynparza was shown to reduce the risk of disease progression or death by 70%. AstraZeneca's Lynparza will likely have to compete against Zejula and Rubraca. Recently, AstraZeneca ( AZN ) and its partner Merck ( MRK ) announced that they had received FDA approval for Lynparza for first-line maintenance therapy in BRCA-mutated advanced ovarian cancer. The FDA approval was given to the drug on the heels of it being able to produce a significant reduction in the risk of disease progression or death.
