Verizon stock jumped to an 18-year high as the Dow Jones industrial average fell 0.5%, bouncing back from heavier losses. The high dividend paying telecom stock has been on the IBD Leaderboard watch list . Verizon earnings rose 24% to $1.22 per share excluding various items, topping estimates by 3 cents. Revenue rose 2.8% to $32.6 billion, just above expectations of $32.5 billion. Verizon added 295,000 postpaid phone customers, above views for 168,000. It added 274,000 a year earlier. "The current lull in wireless competition has benefited Verizon, and the company performed well this quarter, but we suspect that the good times won't last too much longer," New Street Research analyst Jonathan Chaplin said in a note to clients.
