Walgreens stock falls after Goldman cuts to sell on 'intensified' retail-pharmacy challenges Shares of Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc. WBA, -3.05% are down 3.9% in premarket trading Friday after Goldman Sachs analyst Robert Jones downgraded the stock to sell from neutral. "Challenges in its retail pharmacy business have intensified, forcing the company to search for other avenues of growth," Jones wrote, but his analysis found it unlikely that these new initiatives, including some partnerships, will "deliver enough upside to offset the declining core." Jones said that the company's balance sheet is potentially a "limiting factor" that could hurt Walgreens' ability to make a "more meaningful strategic pivot." He is less downbeat about CVS Health Corp. CVS, -0.05% which he rates at neutral, though he doubts that the company's merger with Aetna will help the company "significantly bend the cost curve through its retail footprint."
