Walmart is closing a fulfillment center in Worcester, Massachusetts, according to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act notice. Ninety employees will be impacted by the closure, with layoffs slated to start May 29, per the notice. Associates will be able to transfer to nearby facilities or other Walmart locations nationwide, a Walmart spokesperson told Supply Chain Dive in an email. Employees who move to select facilities may be eligible for a $7,500 transfer bonus as well as relocation assistance and training using fulfillment technology. “We're continuously evolving our fulfillment network to better serve our customers and members as their needs change,” the spokesperson said. “As part of this, we're relocating operations from our Worcester, Massachusetts facility at 1 Tobias Boland Way to other locations within our network.” The spokesperson did not provided additional details about what prompted the facility closure.
