In a recent media release, American Airlines Chief Operating Officer David Seymour said of the upcoming break, “The Thanksgiving holiday period is one of the most condensed and most important for our customers — the stakes are high, and the American team is ready to deliver.” For flyers with disabilities, those stakes are likely to be loftier still. For some, there may even be a sense of the bittersweet when it came to salvaging the holiday escape, which was narrowly averted from being derailed by the recent government shutdown. That's because traveling by air when you have a disability is a precarious endeavor at the best of times and is only likely to prove more egregiously challenging at moments of peak demand when resources are spread even thinner. According to 2022 research undertaken by marketing industry giant MMGY Global, 86% of disabled flyers reported encountering barriers when taking to the skies, and a staggering 96% of those with mobility challenges experienced issue
