chairman, with John Ternus, currently senior vice president of Hardware Engineering, taking over as chief executive on September 1, 2026. The transition was approved unanimously by the board and follows what the company described as a long-term succession planning process. Ternus joined Apple in 2001 and has spent nearly his entire career there, rising to lead hardware engineering, overseeing key product lines including iPhone, Mac, and Apple Watch. "Having spent almost my entire career at Apple, I have been lucky to have worked under Steve Jobs and to have had Tim Cook as my mentor," he said. He joins as CEO at a moment when Apple faces mounting pressure on AI integration, regulatory scrutiny in Europe and China, and slowing iPhone upgrade cycles.
