Apple turned 50 last week, and all it got for presents were a 3% equity haircut and a Nikkei report that's giving supply chain watchers heartburn. Shares of the world's most valuable company slipped Tuesday after Nikkei Asia reported that Apple and its suppliers are wrestling with unresolved engineering challenges on the foldable iPhone, the device the company has been quietly cooking up as its first genuinely new product category in years. Per a source familiar with the situation, Nikkei reports that the current solutions aren't getting the job done, and more time is needed. April through early May is the window where these things have to get sorted before production ramps. That window is, like, now. The stock dropped as much as 5% before Bloomberg rode to the rescue with a report that the phone remains on track for a September launch alongside the iPhone 18.
