U.S. stock indexes on Monday rose, with equity markets apparently buoyed by hope, as lockdowns procedures are eased in parts of the country and other parts of the world. Sentiment around reopenings appeared to overshadow renewed devastation in U.S. crude-oil markets . Meanwhile, investors braced for a deluge of first-quarter earnings reports. There are 149 S&P 500 companies and 12 components of the Dow scheduled to deliver results this week, including those from the likes of Apple Inc. and Microsoft Inc. . Early Friday, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 131 point, or 0.5%, at 23,902, the S&P 500 index advanced 22 points, or 0.8%, at 2,858, while the Nasdaq Composite Index rose 77 points, or 0.9%, at 8,711. In other corporate news, General Motors said it would suspend its dividend and stock repurchases to preserve cash. Meanwhile, U.S. oil prices for June delivery were down nearly 30% on Monday, with the contract below $13 a barrel and flirting with its lowest level since 1999.
