Apple Inc. is looking to manufacture roughly 213 million iPhones through March 2021, which would boost its production by 4% from the prior-year period, according to a report from the Nikkei Asian Review. The report comes as many Apple stores have been temporarily shuttered amid the COVID-19 outbreak and as the company faces some uncertainties about the consumer-spending landscape through the end of the year. The Nikkei report, which cites multiple unnamed sources, indicates that some people in Apple's supply chain expect that Apple's orders could be much lower than the projection for 4% growth and that there are questions about whether the current goals are "realistic." Apple didn't immediately respond to a MarketWatch request for comment on the Nikkei story. Its shares are off 0.9% in premarket trading Tuesday. They've lost 12.5% over the past three months as the Dow Jones Industrial Average has decreased 19%.
