The move marks a shift for a company built on home-sharing, and comes as revenues grew just 10% in 2025, the slowest pace since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. This shift brings Airbnb into more direct competition with Booking.com and Expedia, which already dominate hotel reservations with far larger inventories. Nevertheless, Jesse Stein, appointed in January as Airbnb's first head of hotels, said the company is offering a "very competitive commission structure relative to the other players in the space," targeting boutique and independent properties over the large chains, though Stein said larger deals haven't been ruled out. The hotel push targets segments Airbnb has historically underpenetrated, particularly business travel, a $1.6 trillion market in 2025.
