Lisa Lindahl (left) and Hinda Miller created the first sports bra in 1977, liberating millions of female athletes and forming the basis of a multi-billion dollar industry Her sister, Victoria, had the same problems. “She called me and said, ‘Ugh, my boobs are just bouncing all over the place, what do you do?’” Lindahl, now 71, recalls. It was 1977, and despite searching high and low for a solution—including buying a bra that was one cup-size too small, in an effort to contain her chest—Lindahl was coming up empty-handed. “Victoria said, ‘Well, why isn’t there a jockstrap for women? I laughed out loud and said, ’Yeah, same concept, different part of the anatomy.’” That joke turned out to be the basis of a very valuable idea.
