The Office of the Ohio Consumers' Counsel will watch how the acquisition unfolds, said Angela O'Brien the deputy consumers' counsel for the office. "OCC always has a general concern about cost-shifting as a result of any transaction," O'Brien said in an interview Friday, April 17, adding later: "The deal should not show up on any consumers' bills." AES Ohio filed a joint application for a "change of control," or change in ownership, at the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) on April 10. The electric company will remain publicly regulated, the OCC said. AES Ohio provides electric service to more than 500,000 customers in western Ohio, including the Dayton area. Last month, AES Ohio parent AES Corp. said investors led by Global Infrastructure Partners and the EQT Infrastructure VI fund, agreed to buy AES for $15 per share in cash, a deal said to represent a total enterprise value exceeding $33 billion.
