Summary In the next week, my favorite privately held biotech, Aptinyx ( APTX ), should be coming public. Aptinyx is an interesting story. The company is a platform for small-molecule NMDA drug discovery that already somewhat had a successful exit to Allergan (NYSE: AGN ). At a valuation of ~$500 million, I expect the company to have significant upside as it develops non-opioid therapies that target huge patient populations. Let’s quickly review the key details, as well as why I am going to buy a position here. NMDA - A Proven Drug Development Platform Aptinyx is an interesting story. It is a start-up, but it’s not really a start-up. In fact, Aptinyx is a spin-off of Naurex, which was successfully sold to Allergan during Phase II for its lead NMDA drug candidate in 2015 for a whopping $560 million in cash plus several milestones for R&D and sales success that could value the acquisition at $1.7 billion.
