Allegiant Air and Sun Country Airlines revealed the $2.1 billion all-stock transaction that would combine their complementary route networks and operational models. The merger, expected to close by late 2026 pending regulatory approval, would create an airline serving over 140 destinations with a combined fleet of approximately 180 aircraft. The new entity will retain the Allegiant name while incorporating Sun Country's charter and cargo operations into an expanded business model. "This combination creates a unique player in American aviation," said Allegiant CEO Maury Gallagher during Tuesday's announcement. "Sun Country's operational excellence and charter expertise perfectly complement our leisure-focused route network and customer base."
