Analyst Atul Maheswari noted the key factor driving the positive bias is potential for cost pressures to moderate and margins to begin moving higher towards the end of 2024 and into 2025. "While near-term cost pressures are intense from higher wages & maintenance costs, this is already factored into company guidances & consensus estimates," noted Maheswari. Looking ahead, Maheswari and the UBS analyst team do not think that current estimates fully account for the potential for an inflection in margins as revenue per available sear mile moves higher and cost inflation moderates later this year. The firm was selective in its ratings coverage, showing a preference for airline names with strong free cash flow generation, better near-term relative margin potential, exposure to business travel, and strong loyalty program economics.
