The announcement follows a scathing FAA report on Boeing's safety procedures. Boeing has been mired in a quality control crisis , and even the company's outgoing CEO says that it has a culture of rushing production. Boeing CEO Dave Calhoun announced in a letter to staff on Monday that he would be stepping down from the company by the end of the year. The move follows a January incident where a door plug blew off an Alaska Airlines Boeing 737 Max 9 midair, leaving a gaping hole in the side of the plane. In an interview on CNBC's " Squawk Box ," Calhoun said Boeing needs to slow down its production processes to focus more on getting it right the first time. When asked how Boeing can change its long-standing culture of cranking out planes with more concern for speed than safety and quality control, Calhoun answered, "You slow things down. You catch up."
