European sleeper trains, once a dying breed, are in the midst of a resurgence. They're not only popular but proliferating as well. There are three new routes and one newly reestablished route set to debut in 2026, offering much-needed overnight connections between major European cities. The resurgence of European night trains (aka sleeper trains) began a few years ago and shows no sign of stopping. They suggest the romanticized days of rail travel that were featured in book like Agatha Christie's Murder on the Orient Express The reality might not be quite so romantic – these are modern trains, not antique Belle Epoque carriages – but they offer a highly efficient way to get from one European city center to another. Taking the train eliminates the need to travel to and from an airport on either end. It also significantly reduces your carbon footprint when you opt for the train over a short-haul flight.
