Food services company Aramark said Monday its uniform services division has shifted production lines to make much-needed personal protective equipment for health care and other essential workers during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Philadelphia-based company said the division will make scrubs, masks and isolation gowns, instead of its usual lab coats, work shirts, pants and coveralls. The company managed to convert its facilities in just one week and expects to produce millions of pieces of equipment once it is fully operational. A first shipment of scrubs and gowns was delivered last week and respirator and medical mask delivery is expected to begin mid-July. The PPE will be shipped from plants in Mexico to clients across the U.S. in the healthcare, pharmaceutical, biotech, medical device and other industries where it's needed. Shares rose 0.9% premarket but are down 46% in the year to date, while the S&P 500 has fallen 14%.
