BT has signed a satellite broadband deal with Elon Musk's Starlink after losing hundreds of thousands more customers to cheaper rivals. The former telecoms monopoly has struck an agreement with Starlink to bring internet connections to rural and remote areas where it is either too difficult or expensive to build fibre infrastructure. The service will be available to relevant BT and EE broadband customers in the second half of 2026. BT is the latest UK telecoms group to reach a deal with Starlink, which operates a constellation of more than 650 satellites in low-Earth orbit that beam connections down from space. O2 last week unveiled a deal with Mr Musk's company to provide mobile connections directly to handsets, while Vodafone is launching a similar venture with its US partner AST SpaceMobile.
