Charter is working with financial advisers as it studies the merits of a potential deal for the US broadband and video services provider, the people said, asking not to be identified discussing confidential information. It's unclear whether a formal approach has been made and Charter could decide not to pursue a transaction, the people said. Representatives for Charter and Altice USA declined to comment. Altice USA, spun out of Europe's Altice NV in 2018, is one of the largest broadband and video services providers in the US, serving almost 5 million residential and business customers across 21 states, according to its website. Charter has been losing broadband customers amid an onslaught by wireless providers. Charter and other cable providers are struggling as customers flee traditional TV packages and head toward streaming fare, and mobile phone providers mount stiff competition with wireless broadband offerings.
