(“Anavex” or the “Company”) (Nasdaq: AVXL), a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company developing differentiated therapeutics for the treatment of neurodegenerative and neurodevelopmental disorders including Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, Rett syndrome and other central nervous system (CNS) diseases, today announced that the European Medicines Agency (EMA) Committee for Orphan Medicinal Products (COMP) issued a positive opinion on Anavex’ application for orphan designation of ANAVEX®2-73 for the treatment of Rett syndrome. The positive opinion issued by COMP will be sent to the European Commission, which is expected to grant the orphan designation within 30 days.
