Akzo Nobel ( AKZOF ) is stepping into a new chapter after agreeing to acquire Axalta Coating Systems ( NYSE:AXTA ) in a 7.9 billion all-stock deal that could reshape a coatings sector already navigating tariffs and softer industrial demand. Management has been circling this combination for years, and the structure now gives Akzo Nobel a 55% stake in a business spanning more than 160 countries, while Axalta shareholders receive 0.6539 Akzo Nobel shares per Axalta share. The combined group plans to shift its listing from Amsterdam to New York, a move possibly reflecting its growing US investor base, as Axalta surged around 10% in premarket trading and Akzo Nobel slipped 1.2% in Europe.
