The market for indium phosphide is currently experiencing a significant structural squeeze due to a combination of skyrocketing demand for AI infrastructure and Chinese export control restrictions. Proceeds from last week's $100 million equity raise will be used for expanding manufacturing capacity at Tongmei, the company's main Chinese operating subsidiary. In addition, ballooning demand for indium phosphide could supercharge AXT's long-standing efforts to list Tongmei on the Shanghai STAR Market. However, with the company now valued at more than 10x estimated 2026 sales, strong prospects appear to be largely priced in.
