Gold ( GC=F ) April futures opened at $5,194 per troy ounce on Wednesday, down 0.9% from Tuesday's closing price of $5,242.10. The gold price has risen nearly 19% year to date. The outlook for interest rates, a primary driver for gold prices, remains uncertain as the Iran war continues. The war has disrupted the global oil supply, increasing gas prices in the U.S. The rise could spark a new wave of inflation and limit economic growth . A resurgence of inflation in the U.S. would limit the Fed's ability to lower interest rates, even as the labor market shows continued weakness. The U.S. economy lost 92,000 jobs in February, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics' latest report.
