In a dismal environment for new aircraft sales, there is a rare bright spot. China is seemingly interested in some of the most expensive jets: widebody freighters.Boeing’sBAChinese officials see the coronavirus crisis spotlighting the strategic importance of air cargo, yet their airlines underperform in it.“We must focus on the problems of China’s cargo flight schedules,” regulator CAAC said this month when discussing long-term developments. It called for reforms to “enhance international air cargo capacity and provide strong support for further opening up the global cargo industry chain.”Official comments seldom state details, and the CAAC did not explicitly say its airlines should order freight aircraft.
