Related news Boeing ( BA ) reported a better-than-expected loss in Q1 but production forecasts for the 737 Max, 787 Dreamliner and 777 were trimmed further, resulting in steep layoffs. Boeing stock jumped. Boeing said 737 Max production will start at low rates in Q2. But the planned production ramp-up has slowed and will gradually increase to 31 per month in 2021. CEO Dav Calhoun said on a conference call that the 737 Max should get the necessary regulatory approvals to restart deliveries in Q3, later than a prior view for mid-2020, but the timing will be determined by regulators. He added that Boeing is working to finish the the software validation and required technical documentation needed before a certification flight, but some of the documentation has taken longer than expected. As the commercial business adjusts to the collapse in the aviation market caused by the coronavirus, Boeing expects revenue from the defense and space unit to account for over 45% of revenue this year.
