US stock futures and Asian markets jump following Gilead drug trial report, Boeing plans to resume production New York/Hong Kong (CNN Business) Asian markets and US stock futures climbed Friday, even as China reported its worst three-month period in decades because of the coronavirus pandemic. Investors appear optimistic about signs that the United States is reviving production , along with a report of early success in the trial of a potential treatment for the virus . Japan's Nikkei ( N225 ) and Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index ( HSI ) spiked more than 2.5% each, while China's Shanghai Composite ( SHCOMP ) rose 0.8%. South Korea's Kospi ( KOSPI ) jumped 3.4%. Stocks in Asia started the day strong, and barely seemed to acknowledge China's disappointing first-quarter GDP figures .
