Alibaba ( NYSE:BABA is making another serious push into AI chips, rolling out a new processor aimed at powering the next wave of agentic AI applications. The chip, called the XuanTie C950, was developed by Alibaba's Damo Academy and is built on the open-source RISC-V architecture, putting it in more direct competition with designs from Arm and Intel. It's designed mainly for cloud and inference workloads, with the flexibility to be customized based on specific use cases. On the performance side, the C950 runs at 3.2 GHz and is said to be more than 3x faster than its previous version, the C920, with early descriptions calling it one of the most powerful RISC-V CPUs out there.
