"This really was a difficult decision for us," Christian Werner, Wendell August's president said, in a Friday phone interview. "We love the building we're in." The company said Wednesday that it was moving its giftware metal forging operations 9 miles away to Slippery Rock. But also said it was relocating its Springfield Township retail store, located in the same building as its production center, about a mile east to Premium Outlets at Grove City this summer. Over the past 20 years, Wendell August's consumer sales have risen, Werner said. "But our commercial side has grown a lot more," he said. Wendell August is moving from its 52,000-square-foot building in Springfield Township to a 27,000-square-foot center on Arrowhead Drive in Slippery Rock, Werner said.
