Three years ago, the Detroit Tigers acquired Justyn-Henry Malloy in a trade with the Atlanta Braves. The deal on Dec. 7, 2022 , marked the first notable trade for the Tigers under president of baseball operations Scott Harris . He sent reliever Joe Jiménez and cash considerations to the Braves for Malloy and reliever Jake Higginbotham On Saturday, exactly 1,109 days later, the Tigers designated Malloy for assignment to open a spot on the 40-man roster after re-signing reliever Kyle Finnegan in free agency. Just like that, the first big trade acquisition of the Harris era has been cut by the Tigers. The only way Malloy stays in the Tigers' organization is if none of the other 29 teams claim him off waivers. Here's what Harris said about the Malloy-Higginbotham return on the day of the Jiménez trade with the Braves: "In the end, it was an opportunity to add a young hitter that we're really excited about and a left-handed reliever that we think can really help us."
