Part of that has to do with the diversity of its dining establishments, which in many instances, mirror the large immigrant population of the city. You'll find some excellent Polish, Mexican, Thai, Chinese and Argentinian restaurants in Chicago - the list goes on and on. Naturally Italian restaurants are an important part of the city's dining scene. While there have been several excellent examples that have opened over the past decade, I'm going to highlights two legendary restaurants in Chicago that have been among the best in the city for decades; Italian Village and Coco Pazzo. The history of Italian Village is a remarkable one, as it was founded by Alfredo Capitanini in 1927, making it Chicago's oldest Italian restaurant. Even more special is the fact that the restaurant is still owned and operated by the Capitanini family; at 97 years, this is almost unheard of, even in Italy, where family restaurants are commonplace.
