And while the spirits industry has undergone momentous change since 1933, Old Forester is marking the occasion with a throwback, high-proof whiskey available only in select markets. And I won't bury the lede, folks: The result is a delicious new bourbon, one of the brand's best releases in some time. Old Forester's Prohibition Era Still Proof Bourbon is part of the brand's 117 Series, a roughly twice-yearly line that features more experimental takes on bourbon and rye. What makes this particular release special isn't that it's particularly old (this is a non-age stated whiskey), nor does it have a novel finish. Rather, the bourbon is bottled at 130 proof, which is quite high for an Old Forester batched release. The proof point is an homage to Prohibition-era production, when Old Forester itself came off the still at 130.
