Bausch Health ( BHC ) is a multinational specialty pharmaceutical company. It develops, manufactures, and markets pharmaceuticals, over-the-counter products, and medical devices. These products are primarily in the areas of dermatology, gastrointestinal disorders, eye disorders, neurology, and branded generics. They have over 22,000 employees worldwide and do business in over 100 countries. While we do think Bausch is executing well on its plan to stabilize core operations, we’re not quite ready to initiate a position in the stock for two reasons – patent erosion and leverage. We think any disappointment in the pipeline could result in pressure on EBITDA going forward, putting equity holders at risk of dilution. With leverage at ~7x (vs. target 5x) and management counting on asset sales and maturity amidst a rising rate backdrop, we think there’s just too many risks in the equity at this juncture. We believe the higher-yielding Valeant 5-year bonds are the better way to play
